Final Project: HTML5 Video Tag

Posted on May 14, 2012 02:19:44 PM

Putting videos into websites has been an issue for a long time, because we needed plugins. However, with HTML5, we use a tag to implement videos: <video>. I’m putting a black border on the videos because the white background blends in too much.

<video>

<source src=”video.mp4″ type=”video/mp4″ />

<source src=”video.ogg” type=”video/ogv” />

</video>

But how do we expect to play the video without controls?

<video controls=”controls”>

<source src=”video.mp4″ type=”video/mp4″ />

<source src=”video.ogg” type=”video/ogv” />

</video>

We’re not done yet. Lets add some CSS to the player.

<video controls=”controls” style=”border:50px solid #F60;”>

<source src=”video.mp4″ type=”video/mp4″ />

<source src=”video.ogg” type=”video/ogv” />

</video>

However, it would be wiser to put that style in the page CSS:

video {

border: 5px solid #F60;

}

Also, here is my senior project.

I’m waiting to hand it over to my client and have it hostified.

Pareto Principle

Posted on Apr 13, 2012 02:34:56 PM

1. 80-20 Rule

2. 80 percent of your work comes from 20 percent of the time you spend.

3. 80% of complaints come from 20% of the costumers, 80% of errors come from 20% of the bugs (in software), and 80% of the income goes to richest 20%.

4. We are using so much more resources than we need. If we could find out what that 20% is, we could focus on only that and be much more efficient.

I’ve been stalled on this, mainly because all that’s left to do is have the site hosted and turn it over to my client.

Miyamoto Not Stepping Down

After interviewing Shigeru Miyamoto, the one who brought us The Legend of Zelda and Super Mario Bros, Wired said he was going to retire. Fortunately, he isn’t. He is just working on smaller projects.

People Operate Their Phones While Driving Way Too Much

Posted on Dec 8, 2011 01:45:14 PM

Cell phone use while driving is rising. On average, about 5% of drivers are using their phone at any given time. The number of driver fatalities reported went down from about 5000 in 2009 to about 3000 in 2010, but this is because the methodology changed (in 2009, possesion of a cell phone while driving was recorded as use). Cell use really is going up.

WordPress/Joomla/Drupal Comparison

Posted on Dec 6, 2011 01:31:48 PM

WordPress is easy to use, but not very powerful.

Joomla is in between.

Drupal is the hardest to use, but also the most powerful.

Disc Fragmentation

Posted on Dec 5, 2011 01:25:56 PM

Disc fragmentation is when data that should be stored in one place on a disc is broken into many “fragments” that are scattered in many places. The data may also not be in order. The disc starts with one continuous section, but pieces are deleted in the middle, thus creating fragments. Fragmentation can slow down a computer.
